In healthcare project management, Quality Improvement (QI) principles are critical to enhancing care quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency. This unit provides an introduction to QI principles within the context of healthcare projects, ensuring that quality management is embedded from the early planning stages through to the execution and evaluation of the project. It covers quality domains, the relationship between Quality Improvement (QI) and Quality Assurance (QA), and the integration of QI goals with project outcomes. Additionally, this unit explores the importance of aligning QI with accreditation standards, such as those set by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), to meet both organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
By the end of this course the learner will be able to define: 1. Core concepts related to Quality Improvement Principles; 2. Key processes and tools used in Quality Improvement Principles; 3. Foundational terminology essential to understanding Quality Improvement Principles
